A 2D platformer made for the week long VimJam 2020 game jam on the theme ‘there and back’ with a focus on collectables. Each level is completed in both directions, with the blocks and collectables swapping places at the turning point. This adds a puzzle element and gives the player some control over difficulty. They must choose which collectables to leave in order to make the journey back possible.
Made using Unity and FMOD, with music and audio by Soothill Audio Media. I used the week long jam to properly explore my core idea. The game has 10 levels and introduces a second type of collectable to add more depth in the later levels. If picked up it spawns an obstacle for the return journey.
Improvements could be made to the control feel and difficulty curve. I was aiming for a challenging platformer, but the level style would probably work better with sharper controls.
Controls: A and D or left and right arrows to move. W or SPACE to jump. P to pause. R to restart level.
